Developing a Mobile Application Curriculum Which Empowers Authentic & Personalized Learning Experiences
Developing a Mobile Application Curriculum Which Empowers Authentic & Personalized Learning Experiences This presentation will outline strategies for designing and implementing a curriculum in mobile applications using multiple platforms. Project outcomes and instructional models based on authentic and personalized learning experiences will drive this presentation. Implementing a Project Based Mobile Development Curriculum asks students to develop projects that can be used in the “real world” and enables students to envision, design and test mobile projects which reflect their real world use of technology. As mobile development curriculum continues to evolve, the connection between developing mobile applications and students creating their own personalized learning goals with mobile technology will allow students to create rich learning experiences for their own design. This presentation will outline possible tools for mobile development, rubrics for student assessment of mobile technology and strategies for integrating real world authentic learning opportunities.

Fundamentals of Collaborative Instructional Design
Common Core alignment. Standards and competencies. Maps and charts. Flipping a class. Curriculum, technology, and teaching staff have a lot of projects to manage these days. It’s necessary - and daunting - to nurture productive communication among stakeholders. At The VHS Collaborative, we encounter these challenges every day. We work with our worldwide teaching staff to design courses that support our successful model of facilitated, cohort-based online learning. This is a process that takes a lot of targeted communication and training. When the instructional designer is in one location and the subject matter expert is in another, problems can arise. It takes a whole box of tools to keep the project moving ahead smoothly. This past year, we’ve found a number of tools that fit the bill, and we’ve developed some best practices around them. We’re excited to share those findings with our friends at MassCUE. At The VHS Collaborative, digital learning and global connections are our bread and butter. Our mission is to partner with schools and teachers from all around the world to create unique online learning opportunities for their students. This past year, our members made it possible for 18,000 students to complete core and enrichment courses online.

Managing iPads in a Shared Environment
Many schools have been struggling to deploy and manage iPads and other iOS devices in a shared environment. Managing iPad labs and iPad carts in such an environment is a very different task than managing iPads in a 1:1 environment, and because there is no one-size-fits all solution, many schools, IT staff, and classes are suffering. We will discuss the most common hurdles encountered by schools with these shared setups, and we will walk through the pros and the cons of management tools provided by Apple and 3rd parties (Apple's Configurator, Apple Profile Manager, and 3rd party tools like Casper). Each of these management tools can unearth additional potential issues that also require attention. This session will provide an overview of these hurdles, possible solutions, and will allow for discussion of pros and cons as well as strategies to simplify the management of these devices.

Southeast Collaborative Regional Organization Building Connectivity and Sharing of Professional Development
The Southeast Collaborative Regional Organization (SCRO) will present a workshop that shares the lessons learned from the 2012-2013 development and implementation of a professional development ‘cloud’. SCRO is utilizing funds awarded from the DESE Fund 115 Grant to Encourage Regional, Collaborative and Cooperative Services to connect 35 districts and 8 collaboratives throughout the southeast to professional development offerings. By creating an SCRO ‘cloud’ that connects each district to each collaborative and to the larger SCRO organization, professional development offerings can be made available to all educators in the region and available seats in sessions can be more efficiently utilized. The project also provides tools to districts to manage professional development record-keeping. The workshop will showcase the tool and the outcomes of the project. Information on project implementation will be available for replication.

Starting and Sustaining A 1:1 Program
Putting iPads (or any mobile device) in the hands of all students in a school is a tremendous change for both the students and adults in a school community. This session will review the detailed plans Burlington High School (MA) took to ensure success in its 1:1 plan. Major points of emphasis will include communication to all stakeholders, embedded professional development for staff, training for parents, and deploying a student support team. This model allowed the school to create an understanding that going 1:1 is an instructional initiative and not just a large technology purchase is imperative.

Creating, Managing and Migrating to Google Apps for Education Domain
Google Apps for Education offers incredible benefits to school districts. Emails, documents, calendars and sites can be accessed - and edited - on almost any mobile device or tablet. Websites and document creation tools offer real-time editing as well as powerful sharing controls. The cost is free, but it can be difficult to determine how to best plan and execute a migration or rollout.
