Literacy gaps begin early in childhood and become increasingly difficult to overcome. Yet while extensive resources support early childhood literacy acquisition, little exists for struggling middle school students at the very time they are negotiating the difficult transition from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn.’ One successful avenue for assisting these learners is meaningfully incorporating technology into the curriculum. The Inspiring Middle School Literacy initiative is a series of online lessons that incorporate literacy strategies into major subject topic instruction. Each lesson includes public media clips and interactive online assessment.
Take a deep dive into the Middle School Literacy initiative, 40 online lessons that incorporate literacy strategies into topic lessons from the four major subject areas. After an introduction to the entire collection, ELA and social studies lessons will be showcased. Three PBS goodie bags will be awarded. www.pbslearningmedia.org
